Enamel on hand (steam) bent poplar wood banners mounted on an alu-panel 20” x 31.5”

Inspiration for this project came from my wife, a St. Louis native, who was drawn to the quote of Martha Gellhorn (also from St. Louis) and how it related to today’s political climate. Originally created to honor the suffragette movement anniversary in 2020, and refined and completed in 2021, this quote felt very poignant. We tried to incorporate the handmade sashes women wore during protests and give our piece a three-dimensional feel by steam bending poplar wood by hand. It was a very long tedious process but definitely a labor of love.
